Udal — Terms of Use
Last updated: 3 November 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and UDAL LIMITED ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17557394), registered office 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. Contact: support@udalapp.com.
By creating an account you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use Udal.
What Udal is
Udal is a complete parking companion, and it does two separate things.
It keeps track of your car for you. It works out by itself where you parked, and helps you get back to it: a photo of the spot and a note if you want them, a compass that points at the car and works with no signal at all, a reminder you can set before a meter runs out, and a sense of how long your usual trip takes. This half needs nobody else and, for the most part, no network.
It passes your space on. When you leave, the space can be offered to a driver nearby who is looking for one, and the two of you arrange the handover.
We do not own, control, reserve or allocate parking spaces. A space on a public street belongs to nobody until a car is in it. Udal is a way for two drivers to communicate — nothing more.
Automatic detection
On iPhone, Udal works out by itself when you park and when you drive away, using your location in the background, your phone's motion sensing, and your car's Bluetooth connection. You do not check in or press anything, and it keeps working while your phone is in your pocket.
Two consequences you should know about before you rely on it:
- It can share your spot without you pressing anything. When Udal becomes confident that you are walking back to your car, it marks the space as about to be free and other drivers can then see and request it. It asks you first where it can, but if you do not answer it will publish anyway. Until then, a detected spot is visible only to you.
- It is a best effort, not a guarantee. It can miss a park, record one that did not happen, place it inaccurately, or fail to notice that you have driven off — in which case a space may be shown that you have already left.
If you would rather it did not do any of this, removing Udal's background location permission in iOS Settings turns the detection off. You can still declare a space by hand.
What we do not promise
Please read this part properly, because it is the part people assume otherwise.
- A space shown in Udal may not be there when you arrive. Someone else may take it, the driver may change their mind, or the detection may simply be wrong.
- We cannot guarantee that anyone will wait for you, or that a driver who accepted your request will still be there.
- We do not verify that a space is legal to park in, the size of it, or whether your car fits. Checking the signs, the markings and the kerb is yours to do, every time.
- Automatic detection is a best effort — see the section above for what that means in practice.
- The reminder is a convenience, not a warning. You choose how long to set it for. Udal does not know the parking rules anywhere: it has no record of meter limits, residents' zones, loading restrictions or street-cleaning days, and there is no source it could read them from. When it says "you usually leave here after two hours" it is describing your own past behaviour and nothing more. A reminder that does not arrive, arrives late, or is dismissed is not a defence against a ticket — the sign at the kerb is the only thing that says how long you may stay.
- The compass points, it does not navigate. It gives you the direction and the distance in a straight line, which is not a route: there may be a river, a motorway or a locked gate between you and the car. It needs a working magnetometer, and will say so rather than point when it cannot get a bearing. Phone cases with magnets, and being inside a steel structure, both affect it.
- What is on your phone is only on your phone. The photo and the note you add to a parking spot are stored on that device and nowhere else. If you lose the phone, reinstall the app, or the car is detected as having left, they are gone, and we cannot recover them because we never had them.
You park at your own risk, and you are responsible for obeying traffic law. We are not liable for fines, damage, towing, wasted journeys or time lost. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Using Udal safely
Do not use Udal while driving. Set a destination before you move off, and pull over before answering a request. No parking space is worth a collision.
What we expect of you
You must be a licensed driver, at least 16, and use a real account that is yours.
If you request a space:
- Only request one you intend to take and can reach in the time you said.
- If you cannot make it, cancel or say so — do not simply stop responding.
- Arrive, confirm the handover, and rate honestly.
If you offer a space:
- Only offer a space you are actually leaving.
- Do not ask for money, in the app or at the kerb. Udal has no payments, and demanding any is a misuse of it.
- If you change your mind, say so rather than leaving someone waiting.
Everyone:
- Be civil in messages. No harassment, threats, or abuse.
- Do not create fake spots, fake accounts, or rate people you have not actually dealt with.
- Do not use Udal to collect information about other drivers, or for anything unlawful.
No-shows and ratings
Waiting costs the person who waits real time, so it is taken seriously.
If you accept a request and the other driver never arrives within the waiting period, it is recorded as a no-show and you may rate them for it. If the two accounts disagree about what happened — they say they arrived, you never confirmed it — the handover is recorded as unconfirmed and nobody is rated, because we cannot tell who was at fault.
A rating can only be left for a handover you actually took part in, and counts once.
We may suspend or remove an account for repeated no-shows, abuse, fake spots, dishonest ratings, or any use of Udal that puts other people at risk. We will normally warn you first, and you can ask us about a decision at the address above. We do not currently do this automatically; a person looks.
Your account
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete my account. What that erases is set out in the Privacy Policy.
Your content
Messages, comments, ratings and photos you add remain yours. You give us permission to store and show them inside Udal so the app can work — for example, showing your message to the person you sent it to. We do not sell them or use them to advertise.
The photo and note you take of a parking spot are different. They never reach us, so you are not giving us permission to do anything with them — there is nothing to permit. They stay on your phone and are deleted when the car leaves.
That said, photographing a public street can capture other people and their number plates. Keep these for finding your own car, which is what they are for. Do not photograph people deliberately, and do not use the camera in a way that would be unlawful where you are.
We may remove content that breaks these terms.
Privacy
How we handle your data — including your location, which the app needs to work at all — is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Changes, and ending
We may change these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect, and continuing to use Udal after that means you accept it.
You can stop using Udal at any time by deleting your account. We may end your access if you break these terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protections of the law of the country you live in, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts there.
